Yogyakarta is a
captivating city situated between the stunning Mount Merapi volcano
to the north and the sparkling waters of the Indonesian Ocean to the
south. It offers a lively mix of tradition and progress with an
easy, pleasant lifestyle. Home to over 50 public and private higher
education institutions, students set the tone in Yogya. Gadjah Mada
University plays a prominent role in its host city, but by no means
dominate it. The city is surprisingly compact. One may tour the
streets easily on a bike or by foot, although public transport
system is extensive. Traffic jams, pollution and other big city
problems are minimal in Yogya. In general, the cost of living is
less than most major cities in Indonesia. Students generally have no
difficulty in finding inexpensive accommodations within walking
distance from campus. A charming city with hospitable inhabitants
and pleasant climate, Yogyakarta is likely to be voted as the most
desirable place to study in
Indonesia. |
